B.A (Hons); Ph.D. is currently a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology and Social Science at Edith Cowan University, Perth Western Australia. For the past 20 years Dr Hancock has been researching in the area of gender and development in international contexts. His research has focused on women who work in formal manufacturing em-ployment in less developed nations, such as Indonesia, India and Sri Lanka. He has published widely on the issue of gender, employment and empowerment and his research has been utilized by the World Bank, UNWOMEN and state and international agencies in The Netherlands, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Currently Dr Hancock is the Principal Investigator of a large grant that focuses on women and social capital in Sri Lanka, funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Dr Hancock has used his research to critique global measures of women’s empowerment such as the Global Gender Gap Index and the Gender Empowerment Measure.
